What is MBSR?

The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR) is an internationally acclaimed 8 week course developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Centre for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre. The program has grown out of Eastern wisdom traditions and western science and has been taught now for over 30 years.

MBSR is a structured group program which teaches individuals the principles of mindfulness and how to apply them to deal more effectively with stress, illness and the demands of daily life.

The course includes:
  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Short presentations on theory, group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
  • Individually tailored instructions
  • Daily home practice
  • Four home practice CDs and a home practice manual
