King Curtis

King Curtis was everybody’s session musician before his untimely death. This is a collection/sample of his work and it should be commercial free because it is YouTube Premium stuff.

King Curtis played on thousands of records as the most in demand saxophone player, from the early 1950s until his death in August of 1971. He worked with a wide variety of artists ranging from The Coasters and Buddy Holly, to Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon.

King Curtis began playing the saxophone at a young age in Fort Worth, Texas.

...an American saxophonist known for rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul, blues, funk and soul jazz. Variously a bandleader, band member, and session musician, he was also a musical director and record producer.

Francisco Varela Lecture: "Well-Being Is a Skill" with Richard J. Davidson

Francisco Varela Lecture Series: "Science & Mindfulness: Well-Being Is a Skill"
with Dr. Richard J. Davidson
Jan 22, 2015

Scientific evidence suggests that we can change our brains by cultivating habits of mind that will improve well-being, including happiness, resilience, compassion and emotional balance. Each of these characteristics can be shaped and modified within our brain by experience and training, as shown by the ground-breaking research at the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at the Waisman Center, UW-Madison. In this talk, Dr. Richard Davidson will share how using mental training to cultivate well-being can have a positive impact on happiness, creativity and productivity in the work place and at home.

Dr. Davidson's presentation will be followed by comments from panelists Tor Wager, PhD, Sona Dimidjian, PhD, and Naropa's Peter Grossenbacher, PhD. There will also be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

Richard J. Davidson, PhD, is a renowned neuroscientist and one of the world’s leading experts on the impact of contemplative practices, such as meditation, on the brain. He is the James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry, Director of the Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior, and the Founder of the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at the Waisman Center, University of Wisconsin - Madison. Author of numerous publications, including The Emotional Life of Your Brain, he is the subject of the documentary Free the Mind. Learn more about Dr. Davidson's work.

Epistemology

In philosophy, epistemology is the study of the origin, nature, and scope of knowledge.

The main purpose of epistemology is to know about the origin and understand the nature and limits of the knowledge that a human possesses. It is one of the four main branches of philosophy. Basically, epistemology is the explanation of how a person thinks. It helps a person differentiate between truth and lie. Epistemology makes use of four different sources to gather knowledge, namely, intuitive, authoritative, logical, and empirical.

Mary Maxwell's Invocation at the 2012 Aging in America Conference

https://youtu.be/RqeSqjvN84g
Mary Maxwell reminds us once again that laughter is the best medicine with her invocation at the 2012 ASA Conference. Hear her commentary on marriage, technology, the unexpected stumbling blocks of old age, and Lady Gaga. Mary also discusses things she is thankful for, which range from caregivers and Home Instead Senior Care, to senior texting abbreviations such as DWI (Driving While Incontinent). Her invocation includes a retelling of the poignant poem "Blessed in Aging," meant to tell those who work with and care for seniors how much their efforts mean to aging adults everywhere. Do not miss this YouTube sensation's kick off to the conference.

A Woman Is A Sometime Thing

Song by George Gershwin

Lyrics
Listen To Yo' Daddy Warn You
'Fore You Start A-Traveling
Woman May Born You, Love You And Mourn You
But A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Yes A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Yo' Mammy Is The First To Name You
Then She'll Tie You To Her Apron String
Then She'll Shame You And She'll Blame You
Till Yo' Woman Comes To Claim You
'Cause A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Yes A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Don't You Never Let A Woman Grieve You
Jus' 'Cause She Got Yo' Weddin' Ring
She'll Love You And Deceive You
Then She'll Take Yo' Clothes And Leave You
'Cause A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Yes A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Yes A Woman Is A Sometime Thing
Yes A Woman Is A Sometime Thing

Stay Healthy

"Health is the greatest possession.

Contentment is the greatest treasure.

Confidence is the greatest friend.

Non-being is the greatest joy."

- Lao Tzu

Multiple Sclerosis has no cure but don't let the facts defeat you.

"When something of an affliction happens to you, you either let it defeat you, or you defeat it."

- Rousseau

Or you learn to work around the obstacle, if it is an incurable disease like M.S. that is ongoing and causes systematically more disability.

It is important to take an attitude of adapting and thriving in spite of the disease.

Leave the cure to the scientists and manage your life with the attitude that you can deal with the problems created by the disease.

You will probably need to give up some activities, like the balance beam (LOL) and other athletic pursuits that require balance, strength or require being on your feet for too long.

Focus on what you can still do and not on what you have lost.
